One of the hardest aspects of dealing with a shaft experience is believing that, more often than not, the painful past will eventually lead to a fulfilling future.
Granted, not everyone goes into a tailspin after a shaft experience. And good for them! But, for those of us who need time to process how we’ve been treated, it is a p-r-o-c-e-s-s, and it happens in phases. Which means we need to extend grace to ourselves as we come to terms with what happened. Especially if you never saw it coming.
Just to make sure we’re all speaking the same language here, a shaft experience simply means someone experienced what they considered to be unfair treatment. Notice I used the word “considered.” We will each define a shaft experience based on our LIVED experiences. What I believe to be a shaft experience may not hold true for someone else. And it’s important to acknowledge that.
